All About the Limo

November 12th, 2009

Limousines have been around since 1902, when the driver would sit outside of the car yet remain covered by a canopy. As the years passed, limousines took on a role of transporting the super wealthy to and from special events, airports, or anything else that might have been of importance to them. This remained the case until the 1990s, when limousine prices came down a little bit to compete with taxi cabs and the middle class began to get more involved. There was about a ten year span when the limousine business was booming. When the economy came to a screeching halt in the summer of 2008, things changed.

It wasn’t until very recently that the limousine business has started to make a comeback. Will it be like it was from 1995-2007? Nobody knows for sure, but limousine services do have more to offer. Not only have their prices come down, but there’s a lot more variety to choose from. While the Lincoln Towncar used to be the staple of the limousine business, recently fleets have added the Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes, Jaguar, Cadillac, BMW, and many others. Based on the economy, it’s more likely for someone to prefer riding in a less luxurious limousine and to pay a smaller price.

Those that do want to ride in style, and prefer the standard stretch limousine, will often receive a bar with a refrigerator, a television, a video player, and many other features, which will depend on the vehicle. There will also be a soundproof divider that separates the driver from the passengers and is controllable by the passengers. If the passenger doesn’t want to communicate by lowering the divider, he can often use an intercom.

There are also exotic limousines, which are often used for big events like bachelor or bachelorette parties, graduations, special birthdays, proms, etc. These limousines might feature a hot tub or some other form of exorbitant luxury. These limousines are not as common and only an option provided by some limo services.

The key to ordering a limo from a limo service is to find out what their reputation is like, if they’re trustworthy and on time, and if their drivers are friendly and personable. This can be done by asking people who have used the service before or by doing some research online. In most cases with limo services, you will enjoy the ride.
